About This Series
Adolph Weinman designed the Walking Liberty half dollar, and many collectors consider it the finest-looking coin the US Mint ever produced. It ran from 1916 to 1947 before the Franklin half replaced it. On early 1916 and some 1917 issues, the mintmark appears on the obverse near Liberty's hem - an arrangement soon moved to the reverse. The 1916-D obverse and the 1921 Philadelphia and Denver strikes are the key dates, all genuinely scarce. In 1986 Weinman's obverse was revived for the American Silver Eagle, giving it a second life as one of the most recognized designs in modern bullion.
