About This Series
Engelhard was one of the major platinum producers in the US, and the company struck platinum bars in small quantities alongside its better-known silver output. Production was limited compared to the silver line: the definitive AllEngelhard reference catalogs only a handful of distinct varieties. Most Engelhard platinum pieces were 99.95% fine and carry serial numbers. Since the brand was acquired by BASF and production ceased in 2006, all Engelhard platinum is now vintage. Rarity is extreme relative to silver issues; most examples surface through estate sales or when longtime precious metals collectors liquidate.
